I really like both of the watch towers. v1 has all the cool wooden spikes tied together to make it feel menacing, but v2 has a nice roof and upper structure.
Why'd they pick v2 in the end? J/c, awesome stuff.

As far as I know, there's no Cinematics Art of Cataclysm book; the Collector's edition art book is probably the only source for the concept art.
Eddie, v1 was an initial concept that the game team felt deviated too much from the existing style of the watchtowers. v2 stuck more closely with the existing towers in WoW, and so that was the version used :D
