"The testing and certification of the entire vehicle is carried out by the State Ballistic Authority in Mellrichstadt, according to DIN EN 1063 and DIN EN 1522/23-1. Testing is based on the BRV 1999 testing and certification guidelines for bullet resistant passenger cars and other vehicles. The safety glass protects against full jacketed flat-head bullets up to .44 Magnum (including .357 Magnum and 9mm): Soft-core rounds, bullet velocity 440 m/s, bullet weight 15.6 g, firing test distance 5 m, tested with three shots at a striking distance of 120 mm. The side areas, roof pillars, door trim panels, front and rear foot well areas of the BMW 5 Series Security are all reinforced with moulds and plates of special composite fibre materials (aramide and polyethylene) plus high performance ballistic resistant steel."
